ARTI was recently honoured at an international gathering of scientists, NGOs and entrepreneurs, active in the field of sustainable household energy. The gathering, held from March 20th to March 23rd 07 at Bangalore (India), was on account of the biennial meeting of Partnership for Clean Indoor Air (PCIA) – a global network of organizations and individuals committed to providing clean indoor air in rural homes. Funded by United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA), the meeting brought together about 80 delegates from all over the world. ARTI was honoured for ‘Technological Innovation’ for having developed a wide range of clean cooking technologies – from improved wood burning stoves to compact biogas plants running on waste food. In addition, ARTI’s plan to reach a million rural households with biomass fuelled clean cooking devices by creating a local network of rural enterprises, was also appreciated by PCIA. ARTI was awarded the ‘Ambitious Target Award’ in recognition for the same. The PCIA meeting concluded with the message ‘Think BIG’ inspired by ARTI’s plan.
